Best SUV 2026 in Belgium: 14 models ranked
Comparison of 14 SUVs available in Belgium in 2026. TÜV reliability (9.5M inspections), real-world ADAC fuel economy, Belgian list prices.
The SUV market in Belgium in 2026 has never been harder to read. More powertrains, shifting taxation, marketing claims everywhere. This comparison ranks 14 models against measurable criteria and dated sources.
Straight verdict: for a Belgian family with €40,000–47,000, the Toyota RAV4 Hybrid remains the best all-round choice. The Skoda Karoq is the rational alternative under €35,000.

Top 5 SUVs in Belgium 2026
1. Toyota RAV4 Hybrid — Our #1 pick
From €41,990
TÜV reliability #1 for 2026: a failure rate below 5% on 3–4-year-old vehicles — well under the segment average. Toyota has been refining this hybrid system on the RAV4 since 2005, and it shows in the data.
In practice: 5.6 L/100 km in mixed use (ADAC 2025), a 580 L boot, 4.60 m long. Not the most luxurious, not the most dynamic — but the most reliable, the cheapest to maintain over five years, and free of charging constraints.
Avoid: the pure-petrol versions (2.0 VVT-i, 152 hp), which lose the economy advantage without any reliability gain.
2. Volkswagen Tiguan eHybrid — The most spacious
From €39,990
272 hp, a 652 L boot (the largest in the compact segment), 100 km of electric range on WLTP. The real electric range: 60–70 km according to L'Argus 2025 testing. If you charge every evening, you'll see around 2 L/100 km on short trips. If you don't, you're hauling 200 kg of batteries for nothing and burning 6–7 L/100 km.
TÜV reliability is mid-pack — keep an eye on the suspension and electronics after five years.
3. Peugeot 3008 — The most appealing
From €35,490 (hybrid) / €46,000 (e-3008 electric)
Three variants in 2026: a 136 hp hybrid, a 195 hp PHEV, and the electric e-3008 (700 km WLTP, an estimated 500–560 km real-world). The 136 hp hybrid returns 5.5 L/100 km real-world (ADAC). The e-3008 lines up directly against the Tesla Model Y at a similar price.
Avoid: the 225 hp Peugeot 3008 PHEV from 2021–2022 — gearbox problems documented on Belgian forums and in warranty reports.
4. Skoda Karoq — The rational value
From €31,990
Same MQB platform as the VW Tiguan, similar reliability, 20–25% lower price. A 521 L boot, tidy finish, predictable TSI engines. Used-car depreciation is gentler than the Tiguan's.
Limitation: no PHEV version. If PHEV tax deductibility matters to you as a company, go for the Tiguan.
5. Renault Austral E-Tech — The affordable surprise
From €29,990
200 hp, 5.5 L/100 km real-world (ADAC), a 555 L boot — bigger than the RAV4's. Priced 20% below the RAV4 for comparable hybrid performance. TÜV data is still limited (a 2022+ model) — worth watching on the used market.
