1. Toyota RAV4 Hybrid — Our #1 pick

From €41,990

TÜV reliability #1 for 2026: a failure rate below 5% on 3–4-year-old vehicles — well under the segment average. Toyota has been refining this hybrid system on the RAV4 since 2005, and it shows in the data.

In practice: 5.6 L/100 km in mixed use (ADAC 2025), a 580 L boot, 4.60 m long. Not the most luxurious, not the most dynamic — but the most reliable, the cheapest to maintain over five years, and free of charging constraints.

Avoid: the pure-petrol versions (2.0 VVT-i, 152 hp), which lose the economy advantage without any reliability gain.
