What is the cheapest 7-seater in Belgium?
The Dacia Jogger, at €21,590 for the TCe 110 Expression 7-seat. No other new seven-seater comes close to that figure on the Belgian market.
Second, the Toyota Proace City Verso LWB Shuttle, asks €30,350, which is €8,760 more for the same promise. Third, the Ford Grand Tourneo Connect Trend, €34,431. Then the catalogue drops away: nothing at all under €40,000, and the top of the segment climbs to €61,990 for the Kia Sorento. Between first and last in this ranking the gap reaches €40,400 for what is, on paper, the same service.
Those first three share something the lists written for France leave out: they are van derivatives. The Jogger is a stretched estate, the Proace City Verso and the Grand Tourneo Connect are leisure activity vehicles. The conventional MPV now starts at €40,675.
The third row costs €900 at Dacia
Nine hundred euros exactly, and the figure does not move from one trim to the next.
Recorded on 6 September 2026 from the Belgian catalogue: Expression 5-seat €20,690 against Expression 7-seat €21,590; Extreme €22,190 against €23,090; Eco-G 120 Expression €20,390 against €21,290. The same premium three times over, on three different powertrains.
It is the only entry in the segment where the price of those two seats is stated. At Renault, the Espace 7-seat comes in three trims without the catalogue ever pricing the third row. At Peugeot, Ford and Kia the question does not arise: every version is a seven-seater.
What do the taxes on a 7-seater really cost in Brussels?
From €61.50 to €2,478 of registration tax, on vehicles that all carry seven people.
Brussels calculates on power alone, in fiscal horsepower or in kilowatts, keeping whichever of the two is higher, with no CO2 criterion at all. So the amount does not track the price, it tracks the engine. The €55,270 electric ë-SpaceTourer pays €61.50. The €44,135 Volkswagen Touran 1.5 TSi Highline pays €867. And the €61,990 Kia Sorento hybrid, whose powertrain is rated at 239 horsepower, falls into an upper bracket of the scale, at €2,478.
Over five years of ownership, registration tax plus five Brussels annual taxes, the ranking reshuffles. Citroën ë-SpaceTourer: €526.15. Dacia Jogger: €962.50. Toyota Proace City Verso: €1,219.90. Ford Grand Tourneo Connect Titanium: €1,479.95. Volkswagen Touran 1.5 TSi Highline: €2,223.95. Kia Sorento: €4,094.35.
The figure that really counts is that €3,568.20 gap between the ë-SpaceTourer and the Sorento, two vehicles that seat exactly the same number of people. It amounts to more than half the difference in their list prices.
In Flanders, the same Jogger against Sorento gap falls to €885.11 over five years, against €3,131.85 in Brussels. The choice of model therefore weighs three and a half times more heavily on a Brussels family’s tax bill than on a Ghent family’s, and nobody mentions it at the point of order.
Wallonia allows none of these calculations. Since 1 July 2025 its registration tax combines power, CO2 emissions, maximum authorised mass and fuel type, and no Walloon figure is published on the catalogues: the Walloon columns read NC for all eight models in this ranking. A buyer in Namur or Arlon has to run the SPW Finances simulator, certificate of conformity in hand, before signing. Maximum authorised mass counts heavily in the Walloon formula, and a seven-seater pushes it up mechanically.
The petrol Touran is taxed in Brussels, the diesel Touran in Flanders
Same car, two engines, and the more expensive Region changes.
The Volkswagen Touran 1.5 TSi Highline pays €867 registration tax in Brussels and €319.87 in Flanders at the lowest rate recorded: Brussels costs 2.7 times more. The Touran 2.0 TDi 90 kW Highline pays €495 in Brussels and €685.17 in Flanders, and this time it is Flanders that costs 1.4 times more.
The explanation takes two sentences. Brussels taxes power, and the 150 hp 1.5 TSi makes more of it than the 122 hp diesel. Flanders taxes CO2, the Euro standard and the fuel, and diesel there takes a penalty petrol never sees.
Over five years the diesel comes to €2,925.10 of tax in Brussels against €2,223.95 for the petrol, which is €701.15 more. In Flanders, the same switch to petrol saves €1,873.45. The diesel penalty is 2.7 times heavier in the north of the country, on an identical car.
Do not copy the sums of a friend who lives in the other Region.
MPV, leisure activity vehicle or SUV for seven people?
A leisure activity vehicle if the budget rules, an MPV if motorway mileage rules, a seven-seat SUV only once the first two criteria are already covered.
The segment has emptied from the bottom. The Touran is now the only compact MPV on the Belgian catalogue, the Espace has moved to an SUV body, and the Zafira survives only as an eight-seat van derivative, twin to the Citroën SpaceTourer within €100.
One remark about SUVs, because it changes how most comparisons should be read. The Škoda Kodiaq and the Hyundai Santa Fe do sell as seven-seaters in Belgium, but no seven-seat version is priced separately in the catalogue data: an honest cost of entry cannot be worked out, so they are not in the ranking. For reference, the €46,545 Kodiaq 1.5 TSI Selection pays €867 registration tax in Brussels, and the €63,795 Santa Fe Hybrid Shine pays €2,478.
Our recommendation: the Dacia Jogger TCe 110 Expression 7-seat for the large majority of Belgian families, and the Volkswagen Touran as the alternative beyond 25,000 km a year. The mistake not to make: ordering a hybrid of more than 150 kW in the Brussels Region without first reading its registration tax figure.
